Welcome Aboard, Ohio and Louisiana!
Exciting news: Our Driving Concern, a program of the National Safety Council, is expanding its reach. We are rolling into two new states — Ohio and Louisiana. This turnkey program provides education, training and resources — all free of charge — to help you reduce crashes, prevent injuries and cut costs. You “turn the key” and steer employees toward safety.
We make it easy to bring road safety resources into your safety management system. Crashes impact employers in many ways, often resulting in reduced productivity due to lost work time and can open the door for increased liability exposure. Employers are an essential catalyst to keeping employees, their family members and residents in the communities where they live and work safe.
Let us help. We emphasize ongoing driver and transportation safety training and continuous education to address risky behaviors like distracted driving and impaired driving. We also promote seat belt safety. Our holistic approach is grounded in evidence-based training principles. Our mission, like yours, is to create safer roads for everyone.
Road Safety: Small Investment, Big Dividends
In Ohio, we have partnered with the Ohio Traffic Safety Office to bring employers traffic safety resources addressing the highest crash risks in the state, including distracted driving, and to provide education on seat belt use. These initiatives are aimed at helping employers elevate traffic safety as a priority. You save money and save lives! Find out more at oh.ourdrivingconcern.org.
Meanwhile in Louisiana, where more than 40% of crashes in 2021 were alcohol related, NSC has partnered with Louisiana Highway Safety Commission to empower employers to bring awareness to the risks of impaired driving and make a difference in their community. NSC will develop evidence-based training and create free employer resources to address impaired driving safety risks. Find out more at la.ourdrivingconcern.org.

Workplace Impairment Training
Our Driving Concern program leaders are now offering Workplace Impairment Training. This training explores the effects of impairment from alcohol and other drugs and the impact on driving and workplace performance. During each section of the training, participants will be directed to free resources designed to help raise awareness of risks associated with impairment and to promote safe behaviors. The goal is to help safety leaders better recognize and respond to these six root causes of impairment:
- Alcohol
- Cannabis
- Opioid pain relief medications, including Fentanyl
- Prescription drugs, over-the-counter meds and multi-substance use
- Fatigue
- Mental health
If you are an employer in Ohio or Louisiana and want to learn more about how to offer Workplace Impairment Training to your employees:
- Email Tracy at [email protected]
- Or join us online! Our team will be offering this training virtually from 8:30 a.m. to noon CT on Tuesday, Aug. 6.

Webinar: Injury Facts Employers Should be Paying Attention To
June 11, 2024 – 10–10:30am CST
In 1921, when the National Safety Council published its first statistical summary, An Analysis of Public Accidents, there was no centralized source for injury statistics in the U.S. Over the years, the statistical injury summaries published by NSC added information on a variety of topics that are beneficial to employers.
Join Ken Kolosh, manager of statistics at the National Safety Council, as he explores the latest roadway injury and fatality trends using the Injury Facts website. The site allows you to find the safety data you need – whether that is a basic overview or detailed, interactive charts and tables. Ken will share current crash rate trends and guide you through how to explore the data on your own.
